History of Bing Surfboards

Bing Surfboards was founded by Bing Copeland, who spent much of his childhood growing up next to the ocean at Manhattan Beach, California. He would regularly spend time with other fellow surfers, where they surfed between California and Hawaii.

After his round the world sail trip in 1958, Bing opened up his surf shop in 1959 with his friend Rick Stoner. The 1960s to early 1970s were the golden years for Bing Surfboards. Many shapers were brought on to the team, and during the peak of the companies existence, 40 surfboards were shaped per day (a high number considering that time period).

In the mid 1970s when declining sales took a toll with the company, Bing relocated with his family to Idaho, where Mike Eaton would be in charge of Bing Surfboards. After shaping for the organization throughout the 1980s and 1990s, a new shaper would take charge, Matt Calvani, who currently continues to shape for Bing Surfboards.
