History of Proctor Surfboards

I caught the surfing bug in the 80’s as a skinny young kid.

—Todd Proctor

Like many young surfers growing up in Southern California, Todd got his surf roots early on, heading to the popular surf breaks in Ventura and Santa Barbara. Naturally, he observed shapers and soon took on shaping his first surfboard.

After shaping his first board in 1991, he would go on and shape for McCrystal Surfboards. The following year, he launched his own named label, Proctor Surfboards, shaping boards on the side for friends.

In 1994, he would shape boards full-time with Lost Surfboards and grow his shaping skills with Matt Biolos. Several years of shaping, Todd relocated his operations in 2000 to a new factory in Ventura, where to this day, he continues to shape many surfboards. (A LOT of boards!)

Overview of Proctor Surfboards

Todd emphasizes that “board designs are as vast as the ocean and as varied as its many faces“. Therefore, he shapes many different kinds of boards fit to the specifications of each surfer.

Within each series is further breakdown of varied fin and tail configurations. In total there are over 50 types of surfboards that Proctor currently has available! Check the Proctor Board Shop to view availability.

Each board also has suggested wave preference for those who aren’t advanced in knowing which board is proper for certain rideable conditions.

The Proctor Surfboards website is incredibly detailed with not only the written specifications, but also provides quality videos and images to help you picture how the board will look and perform in the water.

Note that majority of boards shape fall under the shortboard category, however, Proctor Surfboards does have a line of longboards and guns.
